My grandfather served as Head Gardener to Lord and Lady Cranborne — their formal title, of course, being Lord Salisbury. It was a post of great expectation and precision: immaculate lawns, flawless vegetable gardens, and — on occasion — even the newspapers hot-pressed and delivered upstairs.
In those early days, he walked the grand walled gardens beneath ancient trees, a quiet steward of beauty and order. That love of land and living things was passed first to my mother, who wandered those gardens by his side as a child, and then to me — in our own humble garden at home.
It was there, in that modest patch of soil, that my grandfather taught me my first Latin plant names — long before I’d mastered my times tables. I didn’t know it then, but those gentle lessons would shape the course of my life.
Years later, I trained as an arborist. Trees became my study, my skill, my centre. But the calling grew. As we began building homes and remodelling others, my love for trees — and for windswept, untamed landscapes — found its place in every design.
At Brackett Contracting and now Brackett Developments, we don’t simply build homes. We shape environments. Every garden we create is intentional — curated with ornamental grasses, sculptural forms, and the grounding permanence of architectural concrete.
Because for me, it all began with a garden gate, a grandfather’s hand, and a legacy of care that continues to guide everything we do.

Architectural concrete is the language of permanence.
It grounds a space — with strength, with structure, with intention.
But on its own, it can feel cold.
That’s where landscape grasses come in.
Grasses bring movement, softness, and a sense of seasonal rhythm.
They blur the edges, catch the light,
and invite the wind into the design.
At Brackett Contracting, we don’t just pour concrete —
we place it with reverence.
And we don’t just plant grasses —
we frame them, shape with them,
and let them speak where hard surfaces pause.
This is the art of contrast.
Strength and softness. Line and sway.
Durable beauty, grounded in timeless materials
and brought to life through deep craftsmanship.
Because we understand restraint.
We build to last — and to breathe.
We honour structure and softness.
And we treat every outdoor space as a canvas for rhythm, season, and legacy.
